Alright, when you were pregnant, your wife or girlfriend or mother or daughter or sister or cousin, etc was pregnant, what did they crave? Thus far the major and enduring cravings have been, sugary breakfast cerials, especially fruit loops, cold fruity disert items, especially popsicles, sherbert, frozen fruit bars and jello, cool refreshing beverages, especially lemonade, iced tea, smoothies and virgin strawberry daccaries, just recently an extreme craving for rootbeer has taken hold. Other minor cravings have popped up, but they are usually for a very spacific dish or meal and it usually fades after it has been saited, not returning. It is an initial intense, almost painful need for a certain thing, but it goes away once I've had the thing, sometimes even to the point where I no longer even want to think about or smell that food after the fact. One such example was my old favorite sandwich from Subway: toasted footlong Italian herb and cheese bread, with mozzerella cheese, grilled chicken breast, Italian dressing, Parmasan cheese and light on the banana peppers. Wanted it desperately, finally got one, haven't wanted one since and now the very thought of it makes me nausious. lol Ok, your turn, what insane cravings have you experienced/heard of?

I have a friend who said when she was pregnant with her daughter, (and this only happened once), she had a craving for pickles and peanut butter. all I have to say to that is ... um ... wow, kind of nasty. lol

When mom was pregnant with Kell she craved liver constantly. Usually when she had the little boys she ate lots of ice cream and pickles. You could tell she was pregnant because otherwise she only likes vanilla ice cream and she wanted chocolate. I've read though that liver is really bad for the baby though because it has the toxic version or vitaman A. Maybe that's what's wrong with my sister.

Oo nasty! Well when my Auntie Lou was pregnant with Robbie, she craved fish and chips, lol, but I was listening to this radio program I like last year, they were talking about cravings during pregnancy and this lady phoned in. Now, when she was pregnant, she actually craved bars of soap and she actually ate them (no kidding). You'd think it would've made both mum and baby quite poorly if she was eating these bars of soap, lol but apparently not. She even ate two bars of soap during labour. It was one of the really nice posh brands too, lol. Also, Lou having the fish and chips cravings reminded me of this article I read that you could determine the sex of your baby by your cravings. For example, if you were having a girl, you were more likely to crave dairy products and some protein, whereas if it was a boy, you'd have cravings for things like meat, vegetables, fish and chips Etc Etc.

Well, it's not a toxic verssion of vitamin A, it's all vitamin A. Basically if you get too much it can harm the baby, even if it's from natural sources. They say that getting any more than one hundred and fifty percent of your DRV, Daily Reccomended Value is too much and can cause serious developmental problems, although when you are not pregnant or brest feeding a little extra in your diet is no big deal. That's interesting about the types of cravings being related to the sex of the baby. I don't know how much stock I'd put into it, but it does sound fun. lol I'll look for that information and guess my baby's gender based on that and get back to you all. Eating or craving non food items during pregnancy or any time is called pika, I think that's how it's spelled. According to all of the research I've seen you should always indulge your non pika cravings within reason as you often crave things for a reason, but that you should contact your doctor immediately if you have any cravings that could be classified as Pika. Eating soap during labor? That's freakey, usually you aren't allowed, nor do you want to eat anything of any kind during labor. That's interesting. I wonder if she did this in the hospital? I'd think the doctors would have stopped her, but... hell, some people are just sort of weird. rofl My latest cravings are still pretty strange, accept now I am craving kid foods, brightly colored, fun foods. Goegart, (fruit flavored yoegart in a squeezable thin plastic tube like the ones that freeze pops come in) squeezits, (coolaid-like fruit drinks in squeezable skinny bottles with twist off plastic stoppers in crazy colors with funky names) vanilla wafers, animal crackers, graham crackers, rice crispies, jello cups, ring pops, airheads, nerds, bubble tape, etc. For those outside of the us, the undescribed items were cookies usually made for little kids and cheep fun candy marketed to kids more for the bright colors, creative shapes and crazy flavor names, rather than for the actual quality.

I don't remember really craving anything. I had really bad morning sickness throughout my entire pregnancy so a lot of food smelled yucky and I didn't want anything to do with it. For instance, I didn't even want to think of chocolate, let alone smell or eat it. lol Now I love chocolate. Think I wanted a lot of Mexican food too.

I craved Thai Red Curry. I wanted it all the time for the first few months. What I found more interesting, though, was what I *didn't* want anymore--I usually drink a lot of Coke, but during pregnancy that just wasn't appealing. I couldn't stand the thought of meat, and though I generally like Mexican food, I was the exact opposite of Lizzie--I couldn't stomach it.

I've always had an aversion to mayonaise, but since I've gotten pregnant, it has expanded. Blue cheese dressing, ranch and russian dressing are now my sworn enemies as well, although they never bothered me before. Unfortunatly my fiance eats ranch on almost everything and it makes me so nausious. I must be odd then, I had, still have, intense cravings, although they are interspersed with morning sickness. Oh, and meat, I can eat it, but I can't handle raw ground beef right now. When I was making home made meat balls I had to mix it with a fork instead of kneeding it and have my mom roll them into balls while I preheated the oven and prepped the sauce. That has never been a problem for me before, as I could boldly jump right into hands-on preparation of meatloaf, meat sauce and meatballs before I was expecting. I think perhaps a seperate board just for morning sickness might be in order. Since it's such a nasty and unpleasant thing it seems to warrent it's own unhappy descussion. lol
